Kedartal Trek
At a height of 15,485 feet, Kedartal, one of the world’s most breathtaking glacial lakes, provides a close-up spectacular view of massive peaks such as Manda, Mt Meru, Thalaysagar, and many more. The lake is fed by snowfall from Thalay Sagar, Meru, Bhrigupanth, and other nearby peaks. Fitting perfectly among the barren landscapes of the high Himalayas, it is also considered to be the source of Kedar Ganga, which is considered Lord Shiva’s contribution to Bhagirathi in Hindu mythology.
The Kedartal trek begins at the pilgrim town of Gangotri and includes a steep rocky climb along the narrow Kedar Ganga. This trek is considered difficult due to the rocky path, high altitude, and steep ascent segments, generally requiring adequate physical and mental preparation. Tricky terrain becomes significantly more difficult as the route advances, hence the Kedartal trek is recommended only for trekkers with prior experience looking for a challenging trail. The preparation and hard trekking are amply rewarded as one completes the journey, leaving an incredible sense of accomplishment.
